Direct from Valletta 2018 - Malta’s smash-hit musical.
Glamorous British entertainer Christina Ratcliffe went to Valletta to entertain the troops. Then she fell in love with daredevil RAF pilot 'Warby' Warburton and stayed on throughout WW2. Her touching real-life story is presented as a musical play, featuring original songs alongside evocative wartime hits like “I’ll Be Seeing You” alongside original songs, including “Welcome To Valletta".
Still singing and dancing with ‘The Whizz-Bangs’, Christina Ratcliffe also worked with RAF Fighter Control in the secret underground world of the Operations Room. She became a living symbol of Malta’s heroic resistance as ‘Christina of George Cross Island’… and was decorated for gallantry by King George VI.
“It’s nostalgic, it’s about love, and beautiful people, but it’s also about strength and courage, and serves as a window on life in Malta during the war...A highly enjoyable show which traces the human elements of Malta’s wartime past, while showcasing quality talent and a story which is both intriguing and endearing. Ratcliffe’s love affair with Warburton is the romantic gold in terms of storytelling, but what emerged most was her strength of character and reliance during some of the most terrible times Malta ever endured - as well as her love for the island and its people. Definitely one to watch…” (Andre Delicata, Times Of Malta).
“I left the theatre feeling all the better after watching it... the characters ring true... the audience enjoyed the humour... I loved the songs.” (Marie Benoit, Malta Independent on Sunday).
“This little musical has, at its heart, a love song for the people of the Maltese Islands, whose courage and unquenchable spirit shone brightly at a time of terrible danger and privation.” (Newspoint, Malta).
The show is based on extracts from Christina Ratcliffe’s own writings, and the book Malta’s Greater Siege and Adrian Warburton DSO* DFC** DFC (USA' by Paul McDonald.
